Prof Jawad Syed (LUMS) conducted a couple of sessions on “Gender and Inclusive Leadership” and “Women’s Empowerment and Political Leadership” as a part of a training program for public servants of the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan.
The program was led by Dr Misbah Tanveer and Dr Faiza Ali, under the auspices of CBS, LUMS.
In Prof Syed’s sessions, the participants identified the following three key challenges in the way of women’s empowerment and political leadership:
1. Patriarchal culture and norms
2. Gender stereotypes and mindset
3. Gender disparity in access to opportunities and resources including quality education and employment
