Synopsis
This case explores the experiences of Chinese expatriates and businesses in India, focusing on their adaptation challenges and contributions to the Indian economy. Beginning with a historical overview of Chinese migration to India, the case discusses the Indo-China trade relationship, foreign direct investments, and the impact of Indian economic liberalization on Chinese enterprises. It highlights the role of major Chinese firms such as Foxconn, Lenovo, Huawei, and Oppo in India’s manufacturing and technology sectors. The case also examines the cultural and business challenges faced by Chinese expatriates, including language barriers, social isolation, and differences in work culture. The case concludes with a discussion on how mutual economic and cultural understanding can be improved between Chinese expatriates and Indian society.
